2020 WTM: STRONG INTEREST FROM THE UK TOURISM SECTOR IN PROMOTING ARGENTINA’S NATURAL SITES

INPROTUR attended one of the major European tourism fairs, held online, where professionals from the UK tourism industry and from other parts of the world showed enthusiasm about selling the natural sites in our country.

As a result of the social changes and new habits that the pandemic has brought about in the whole world, in tourism, nature and open areas will be the stars of future travel. Argentina, with its vast territory and leading position as to natural spaces, is in an excellent position to reopen the industry and take it to the highest level.

In this context, through the National Bureau of Tourism Promotion (INPROTUR), Argentina attended the 41st WTW tourism international fair, held online in London, United Kingdom, from November 9 to 12.

The presence of our country in the most important tourism event in the United Kingdom raised strong interest from the British sector to sell the highly valued nature product that Argentina offers.

As INPROTUR’s Executive Secretary Ricardo Sosa pointed out: “Nature and green areas will be highly demanded by tourists in the next months. Argentina is a world model as to natural spaces and this is one of the reasons why British tourists visit our country. That is why we aim at enhancing our tourism supply to offer not only nature but also anything UK travelers are looking for”.

The presence of our country at the event was also important to announce the recent reopening of the borders for tourists from neighboring countries who, in this first stage, want to visit the Metropolitan Buenos Aires area (AMBA) and to discuss the excellent work on biosecurity carried out by our country in co-operation with the provinces. In this respect, it is worth mentioning that Argentina was recently awarded the Safe Travels Stamp by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC). In addition, 23 out of the 24 districts in our territory and more than 60 cities have also been awarded the distinction.

Another major point was promoting MICE Tourism, which Argentina leads in Latin America, according to the latest ranking of the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA).

It should also be mentioned that in 2019, the United Kingdom ranked 13th in arrivals of foreign visitors to Argentina and totaled over 115 thousand arrivals.

The six regions of our country –Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Litoral, Cuyo, Northern and Patagonia regions, Aerolíneas Argentinas as well as private entities invited by the Argentine Chamber of Tourism (CAT) joined INPROTUR in this event.
