ARGENTINA’s LOCAL STORIES: EMOTION AND HOPE FROM CALAFATE

After recovering from COVID-19, Natalia Lo Presti, a tour guide in Los Glaciares National Park and the Province of Santa Cruz, conveys optimism and looks forward to welcoming world travelers with open arms.

Last March 13, the life of Natalia Lo Presti, a tour guide in Los Glaciares National Park and the Province of Santa Cruz, took an unexpected turn: after picking up a group of French tourists, she found out that one of them had caught COVID-19. But this was not all: as she had been in contact with that visitor, she had to comply with the mandatory isolation protocol and it was then that Natalia realized she had also been infected with the virus.

Far from feeling scared, she was brave and responsible to face the situation and protect herself and the people around her. Luckily, after resting for a few days, Natalia could recover and today she is in perfect health.

This release of Local Stories, the National Tourism Promotion Bureau (INPROTUR)’s digital promotion strategy, features Natalia who, besides telling this special story, shows world travelers the beauties of the Perito Moreno Glacier.

The glacier is the pearl of Los Glaciares National Park and it has the privilege of being the most easily accessible glacier to be seen because of a network of walkways that allow visitors to walk along and take a close look at this amazing work of nature “It’s spectacular, it leaves visitors breathless. Everybody agrees that it’s one of the most beautiful places on Earth”, she asserts.

Besides, one of the experiences that the thousands of tourists coming every year request the most is mini trekking on the glacier. “It’s very easy to walk on the glacier”, says Natalia and adds that kayaking in front of the famous ice wall is another great adventure to experience in the Park.

At the end of her story, Natalia invites the French visitors who could not complete their trip as planned due to the health issues to come back. And with her, the whole country urges the world to keep dreaming of visiting us, despite the difficulties.

Soon this pandemic will be history and both the Perito Moreno glacier and many other tourist jewels in Argentina will be even better than before to welcome world tourism. As usual, this Local Story can be seen on the INPROTUR YouTube, Instagram,Facebook, Twitter andLinkedIn accounts.
