THINKING THE CHINESE MARKET: ARGENTINA AND A MEETING TO LEVERAGE ITS PROPOSALS

INPROTUR’s Executive Secretary Ricardo Sosa and Secretary of Tourism Promotion of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports Yanina Martínez took part in a meeting organized by the Argentine-Chinese Chamber of Production, Industry and Commerce, where they discussed various strategies and possibilities of growth of the largest outbound tourism market worldwide.

Argentina keeps developing strategies to attract the Chinese market once the sanitary conditions allow it: with roughly 150 million Chinese tourists that travel abroad every year, promotion in the Asian country becomes a must to further increase the more than 75 thousand visitors that our country received from China prior to the pandemic.

With this goal in mind, National Bureau of Tourism Promotion (INPROTUR)’s Executive Secretary Ricardo Sosa and Secretary of Tourism Promotion of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports Yanina Martínez participated in a virtual meeting called Opportunities and Businesses for Argentina Branding in China: sports, tango, Spanish language and tourism organized by the Argentine-Chinese Chamber of Production, Industry and Commerce.

The topics discussed at the meeting revolved around defining a country branding with different elements that are typical of Argentina. Sosa, who led the Chinese inbound tourism in Argentina –post-Covid 19 Development of Opportunities and current challenges meeting with Du Xiaolin, from La Bandada Internacional, and Matías Esteras, from Vivaterra, highlighted the strategic agreement with Trip.com Group, one of the largest travel agencies worldwide, along with Minister of Tourism and Sports Matías Lammens. He also recalled that “with over 75 thousand tourists that visited us prior to the pandemic, Argentina is the country with the largest number of Chinese tourists in South America. All these joint actions between the public and the private sectors will enable us to boost those numbers. Distances are shorter when we work together as a team”.

Other topics discussed were sports and tango. Regarding sports, our passion for soccer has always raised curiosity. Now, in addition, several agreements have been signed with soccer schools to train young boys and girls to play it. Polo, which in China is associated with a high purchasing power market, also offers great possibilities of development.

As far as tango is concerned, artist Mora Godoy said a few words and it was analyzed as another great attraction of our country. Introduced in the Asian country since the early 90s, nowadays the typical Argentinian dance is practiced more and more by Chinese people and is one of the main reasons why they visit us.

It is also worth noting that regional promotion was another key point of the meeting. The attendees agreed that the sum of all countries multiplies us.
