COLOMBIA —AEROLÍNEAS ARGENTINAS ADDS MORE FLIGHTS, WHICH WILL ALSO ARRIVE AT JORGE NEWBERY AIRFIELD

Last Tuesday in Colombia, Aerolíneas Argentinas and INPROTUR presented the new flight layout between Bogotá and Buenos Aires, including a frequency increase from 5 weekly flights to daily flights as of July, and the direct arrival at Jorge Newbery Airfield. The latter will benefit Colombian tourists, since they will be immediately connected with the 37 national destinations with which the flag carrier operates, landing at an airport located only 10 minutes from the Obelisco, the Buenos Aires icon.

The presentation was given by the Commercial Director of Aerolíneas Argentinas, Fabian Lombardo, INPROTUR’s Executive Secretary, Ricardo Sosa, and the Argentinian Ambassador to Colombia, Gustavo Dzugala, before the main wholesale tour operators and Colombia’s media. They were all welcomed in the official residence of the Argentinian Embassy in Bogotá, where they also enjoyed a tasting of typical foods and wines from Argentina.

After the welcoming words by Ambassador Dzugala, INPROTUR’s Executive Secretary, Ricardo Sosa, highlighted Aerolíneas Argentinas’ decision of increasing the connectivity and moving its operations to Jorge Newbery Airfield, “because it not only facilitates immediate connection with the rest of the country, but also gives both Colombian tour operators and Argentinian provinces the possibility of offering tourist packages for all destinations in the country. We are convinced that these actions will benefit international inbound tourism.”

He added that Colombia is one of the most important Latin American markets for Argentina: “Before the pandemic, Colombia was among the top 10 sources of inbound tourism markets for our country, with almost 170,000 annual arrivals. Now, since the border reopening, more than 27,000 Colombian tourists have already entered the country, and comparing January – April 2022 with the same period in 2019, we have regained 57% of Colombian tourists. This marks the speed in the reactivation process of this market, which is once again in the top 10 of sources for inbound tourism.”

He mentioned that Argentina “has been carrying out brand positioning promotional actions through INPROTUR for end consumers, and together with tour operators and airlines, we have accelerated the intermediation of the offer and generated a greater flow of inbound tourism for the country. Our participation in the Anato 2021 and 2022 fair, together with Argentinian tourism companies, also enabled us to establish constant liaison with the Colombian trade, beyond the promotions and numerous virtual meetings that we have always held.”

On the another note, Lombardo provided numerous technical details on the frequency recovering process that Aerolíneas Argentinas is going through for the domestic market, and gave an overview of the flight reactivation in different markets, such as Brazil, Italy, the United States, and Colombia, for which daily flights will be offered to Jorge Newbery Airfield as of July. This announcement implies a growth in pre-pandemic frequencies, when only four weekly flights were operated. In this context, several arrival and departure schedules were set up in order to enable Colombian tourists to make domestic connections with the entire country, also conveying the idea of unity among provinces, which will have the possibility of offering packages with almost immediate connections.
